Going Rogue | Album | 2017 |
Before that he had learned a little on the drums and then picked up his brother’s rarely used guitar from a dusty corner. Vincent first found a love for music through the 70's rock he heard on the car stereo, and started learning those monster guitar riffs from any, and every, YouTube 'how to play' video! Fortunate enough to live next door to Paddy Stratton, a folk and rock musician who had previously written an album for The Levellers, Paddy taught him the basic chords and they jammed on a weekly basis.
With a couple of friends from school, Vincent put a band together, and by this time had discovered bands like The Sex Pistols and Nirvana. Naturally the band covered the easier to play tunes from punk and rock bands and, after struggling to find a vocalist, Vincent eventually said 'I'll do it myself!’ - he was, in his own words, a dreadful singer but, practice makes perfect and with time he became more confident and capable. A good few variations of the band came and went, and Vincent started to write his own songs and play gigs that weren't in the high school assembly hall. After leaving school the gigs moved to local pubs and, being a punk band with the discovery of alcohol, they acted like one too - they weren't always popular but somehow still managed to get the odd gig!
Fast forward a few years and swap out a couple of members of the band, they were still doing it. Deciding to leave his job to do charity work in Africa through the ICS programme with Restless Development, Vincent spent 3 months living in rural Uganda. It was an amazing experience and he came to realise that he had changed - no longer angry at anything, the writing of angry punk songs didn't really make sense and wasn't the way forward any longer.
And so, Vincent Knight was born. Through this new venture and stage name, Vincent could write and perform music that really had heart and soul in it. Real experiences put into words and music, alongside experimental tunes and guitar parts.
Then GingerDog Records found him and Going Rogue was the next chapter. Released in May 2017 to rave reviews, Vincent has gained more and more momentum, with gigs flooding in and his presence becoming frequently requested and known.
