It all started in 2012 to the music of Pat Metheny.

Cousins Daniel Leite (guitar) and Thiago Albuquerque (synthesizer / piano) listened to the album Secret Story when the guitarist suggested assembling a band to play Thiago’s compositions. Fond of rock and its roots in bands like Genesis, Yes and King Crimson, Daniel went further: he suggested incorporating Thiago’s melodies, themes and tracks a new version inspired by progressive rock, and together they began play only those compositions with guitar and synthesizer / piano, accompanied by drums and electronic bass.

After giving to the compositions an atmosphere of progressive rock, they thought it was time to incorporate two new members to the band so that the mixture would be complete, then the quartet was finally formed by Henrique Penna (drums) and Príamo Brandao (bass), who replaced the bassist Mario Neto from the first recordings.

From that point on the compositions together absorbed a sound of rock in its most progressive aspect, and the quartet ended up highlighting the originality from the fusion of musical influences from each of its members. The result is instrumental music with a futuristic / space atmosphere, hence the name Ultranova.

Throughout this time career, the band has shared the stage at events with artists like Egberto Gismonti, Violeta de Outono, Manari Trio, Hermeto Pascoal, Ney Conceição and Sebastião Tapajós.

Live performances of the band still have the participation of a fifth member – a VJ who works together with the projection of high definition images based on the ambiance created by each specific composition. From this mix, the videos end up becoming movies, and Ultranova’ songs its own soundtrack played live, bringing even more to the modern progressive rock band, where each performance becomes a big show of art involving performance, video and music altogether on the same stage.
