Inspired by the great traditional singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter, artists who continued the tradition and also transformed this concept such as Nancy Wilson and Kurt Elling, as well as singer/songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Sting, and contemporary jazz artists like Gretchen Parlato and Becca Stevens who stretch and blur the boundaries between genres and innovate in sound, Sietske takes her artistic fuel from the simplicity of a touching folk song as well as music with more complex polyrhythmic structures– and develops her own style based on two pillars of her endearing personality: Her quiet complexity and her amazing voice.
