Seafire | EP | 2016 |
Back in 2014, on Liberation Day – when Seafire were formed – no-one within the band could have known what lay ahead for them.
Following an experimental first year, their first song ‘Chasing the sun’ was recorded in a Groningen in the summer of 2015 – the band had found their muse and began writing more of their own material.
Seafire went back to the studio to record ‘Step in the light’ by the end of 2015. The very positive response to this track confirmed the band’s impression they were on the right course. After two more new songs had been recorded in the summer of 2016 – ‘Cliffhanger’ and ‘Cross the sea’ – and their eponymous EP had been launched, there was no way back.
Cliffhanger was shared on social media and picked up by a well-known Dutch radio station. The listeners of this station – who cast their votes for the traditional annual music chart – ensured Seafire ended up in the top ten with three tracks.
On the eve of 2017, Seafire managed to secure slots at prestigious Groningen talent contests ‘Rode Oortjes Festival’ and ‘Pop Groningen Talent Award’, receiving praise for their original work. Shortly before said festivals the band made its international debut with a successful live gig at legendary London venue ‘The Dublin Castle’.
The seminal song Cross the Sea was tipped for the Dutch Indie Chart and voted stand-out track of the week by Best Music Radio.
The band are currently working hard to make a success of the rest of the year, both on stage and in the studio: the band will work with Guido Aalbers again, the well-known Dutch producer (Coldplay, Suede, Queens of the Stone Age) who weaved his magic on the Seafire EP.
What others say about Seafire:
“Dutch band doing a ripe and rounded post punk art rock affair with intense playing and equally fraught vocals in an angular, obtuse grunge style… psychedelic at that, like a grunge late era Beatles. Pounding and powerful, a bit Bob Mold, a bit Stones/Replacements, low slung and cool.” (Review van Bugbear Bookings, London)
"You guys rock" (Peter Kelly, owner of Irish pub O'Ceallaigh, Groningen)
"A new and fresh sound" (Erik Glazenburg from EchtErik, platform for pop music in the Northern Netherlands)
"Beautiful melodies in a British rock harness" (STAD, magazine for Groningen)
