POLIFAUNA is a five piece space and dream pop band from Riga, Latvia.

The band draws its musical inspiration from 80’s and 90’s independent music encompassing walls of dreamy guitar effects and analog synth sounds accompanied by soft and melodic male vocals and groovy rhythm section. Currently the band has finished working on their debut LP and has released couple of singles from the upcoming album alongside with a music video. The album was recorded in a lo-fi, DIY fashion at the band’s rehearsal space/studio by the band's frontman Andris Strazds, who also happens to hold a law degree, but has now remained only as a part time freelance consultant for numerous law firms focusing his creative energy on producing new music and performing. "I always thought that making it as a musician is kind of a sketchy aspiration to have, hence I opted for this relatively safer plan B in the field of law. The only problem was that I got pretty good at the job and forgot why I was doing it in the first place. I never stopped writting though and gladly, after a sort of mental breakdown I decided to go back to what I was doing in the first place - making music. However, it took me around 4 years to get back on the track in terms of rebuilding the studio, acquiring gear, finding bandmates I can play live shows with and producing new music. It feels less scary now to acknowledge that I might spend the rest of my life as sort of a bum, but at least I have tried to be on both sides of things, I got some money out of it in order to buy gear, record songs and I can keep doing what I love now without having to worry too much about my future, well at least I’d like to think that” says Andris in one of the interviews for local music blog. The album was mixed by local talent Gatis Zakis (who also worked with Carnival Youth, Instrumenti) and mastered by Sarah Register (who previously worked with The Shins, Andrew Bird, Lowe Dens etc). The band's third single "Last Days of Summer” has since it’s release in August 31st, 2017 been featured in numerous international indie music blogs such us Obscure Sound, BIRP!, etc., and playlists drawing considerable attention from English speaking audience residing in United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. The band plans to tour extensively in 2017 and 2018 promoting the release of the upcoming album.
