“Darkly jubilant... stylistically diverse, Penny Orchids do mood very well… A beautiful, cinematic dream” - The Quietus
“Startlingly accomplished… story songs that hang together like a compendium of classic Victorian gothic tales” - – Joyzine
Penny Orchids are a genuine modern day folk band, stealing from gothic blues, outlaw country, Weimar Berlin, heavy dub and klezmer, flitting from one style to another, sometimes seamlessly, sometimes with the subtlety of an angry gun turret mounted on a leopard seal.
Their electric late night live shows have already created a stir amongst audiences in their native London, poaching a following through support slots with the likes of The Ukrainians, Washington Irving and Tankus the Henge. A recent appearance at Islington’s Union Chapel for the Daylight Music series saw a set reworked with a full horn section and acoustic instruments to great acclaim.
