In the audio-visual performance, Ukrainian-born musician Masha Kashyna combines fine metallic vibrations of the vibraphone and airy wooden sounds of the soprano saxophone with electronic beats and accompanying visuals.

In her solo program "X Imperium", she tells the story of "getting out of control", of "not being controlled anymore", and the story of playing with the provocations of the Cold War. In the tradition of Ukrainian avant-garde opposition, voices of resistance and criticism of imperialism resound, proclaiming their freedom and independence
anew.

Influences from jazz, industrial, minimal, trip hop, classical, experimental and noise can be detected in the sound, ensuring that despite all unique-ness, something familiar always resonates. The sonic tapestry, spun from soundscapes, analogue delays and experiments in digital production, is full of dynamics and timbres. Video prologues from the U.S.A. and political opening speeches from Russia, recycled found footage from old Soviet films reveal a black and white past in images of Eastern Europe and the Western superpowers, unintentionally united by images of epic natural landscapes and global urban aesthetics. Their compositions and improvisations are reminiscent of soundtracks from thrillers not yet filmed, soothing daydreams and exciting journeys, melancholic memories of times long past …
