Ideally, the group browses through folk traditions from around the world and mixes influences in his famous contemporary jazz cocktail. The Quintet formation is very unique: a trumpet, two saxes, a tuba and a drummer. All 5 musicians are in Europe's top five of (jazz) musicians. Mâäk plays acoustic, so they could play anywhere and that's exactly what they like to do. From book shops to churches till thermic baths in Budapest, Mâäk plays literally everywhere!
Since its inception, Mâäk always renews 'jazz' and has various unique projects that elevate jazz to other levels. The collective was born at the end of the 1990's and this fact is very innovative in the jazz scene. Creations such as MikMâäk, an all-star big band, bring new breath into the jazz scene, which is really needed nowadays. All of Mâäk's projects are greatly appreciated by the jazz public who is in need to experience this beside the 'classic' jazz experience.
Mâäk's Spirit existed of many different formations and a lot of different guest musicians, the actual Quintet has now released their first cd 'Nine' (October 2014). Below only the dates of the past gigs of the actual formation (starting from November 2013). Upcoming gigs are with other projects of Mâäk for the time being (Until May), since the collective has just finished a release tour.
