Hailing from the slums of Peru, LUI's family embarked on a journey to escape poverty, eventually settling in America when he was just a young child. Shortly thereafter, his parents divorced when LUI was at the tender age of four. Following the divorce, LUI lived in Virginia with his mother for a short time, where she instilled in him a solid sense of work-ethic and the importance of education. LUI relocated to New Jersey to live with his father after that. But, not before his mother gave him a special gift: a guitar, which he used to create his first song.
Although they were separated by distance, LUI’s mother was always nearby, supporting his love for music. However, things took a turn for the worse when she succumbed to cancer shortly after LUI graduated high school. Devastated, LUI decided to keep going and keep his mother’s dream alive for him to have a better life. So, LUI went to college to pursue a psychology degree. Even though education was now at the forefront, LUI never let his love for music die.
Although LUI has been creating music his entire life, finding it as a source of inspiration, escape and a beautiful form of self-expression, he began to present his music to the world in 2017 after seeing it as a way for him to live his dreams and still make his mother proud. According to LUI, “My mom’s number one goal was for me to come to the U.S. and have a better life. One day in 2018 it clicked for me, her dreams and my passions could co-exist. I realized that music could provide the life my mother dreamed of for me, and I hit the ground running.”
And that’s exactly what he did. Since his epiphany, LUI released has four well-received EPs ‘Thoughts In My Head’, ‘Time to Eat’, ‘Graduation’, and ‘Foreigners World’ as well as built a solid fan base of loyal listeners. Citing influences such as Eminem, Arcangel , Michael Jackson, 50 Cent, and Pitbull, plus a main goal of inspiring people and letting them know anything is possible, LUI is well on his way to following in greatness’ footsteps with genuine music and hustle. LUI continues to release music every month and is now working on his next major project, “Graduation : The American Dream EP Coming Summer 23” Stay Tune!
