TIMELINE & FACTS
• In the early 2012 Koza Mostra released their first single “Desire” right before their debut show.
• In June 2012, they were invited to perform at MVA, the biggest video awards show in Greece in front of thousands of people.
• In September 2012 they released their second single “Me Trela”.
• In late 2012, at the request of national TV channel ERT, they took part as a contestant at the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest of 2013. In order to prove that “anything can happen anywhere”, they accepted the request, and invited one of the most significant singers of “rebetiko” music - Agathon Iakovides, to join them on stage in their song “Alcohol Is Free”. At the Greek Finals, and with a record breaking percentage of audience votes, they got the ticket for Malmö, Sweden, where they achieved 6th place on the final chart and 3rd place on the audience vote charts.
The song became a big hit and, despite of Greek lyrics, attracted worldwide attention, turning the song into a symbol of freedom and optimism, and cumulatively getting more than 12 million views on YouTube.
• In March 2013 they released their debut album, “Keep Up The Rhythm”. The album artwork was created by Paul Hitter, one of the most influential gipsy artists, who also designed most of Gogol Bordello’s artwork. The album became multiplatinum as it sold over 130.000 physical copies and reached remarkable positions on the charts.
From 2013 to 2017 the band was touring Europe intensively, playing shows in Italy, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Russia, Turkey, Israel, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Latvia and other countries, building up their fan base and establishing their reputation as the ultimate party band at the festivals of all sizes.
• In 2015, during the Netherlands’ Bevrijdingsfest they had 2 shows on the same day, in Zwolle and in Wageningen, performing in front of thousands of people.
• In the same year, following a personal request of Mikis Theodorakis, they made a cover of one of his politically most famous songs “Leventis”, thus becoming the first of the new generation artists who were allowed to “ touch” his legacy.
• In 2016 they acclaimed “Balkan Beats” collection from Berlin included “Alcohol Is Free” in their compilation release.
• In late 2017, the band released their second studio album “Corrida”, the artwork was once again designed by Paul Hitter.
• Until early 2020, they were relentlessly touring in Europe while sharing the stage with artists such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Gogol Bordello, Dubioza Kolektiv, Die Antwoord, Panic at the Disco, Madness, HIM, Guano Apes and many more.
• Their personal highlight of those 2 years was late 2019 European tour which included 18 dates in Germany, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic and Bulgaria including several sold out shows in Germany.
• In early 2020 they released “Requiem” a single on which they joined forces with Pedrito Erazo of Gogol Bordello, a song that openly criticises the aftermath of wars from the refugee’s point of view.
• “Requiem” was embraced by Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) for their 2020 humanitarian campaign .
• In June 2022 the band released their latest single “Bilio” which combines hard rock guitar riffs with traditional bouzouki
• The 2022 European summer tour started at “Hills Of Rock” festival in Sofia (Bulgaria), where the band shared the stage with Placebo, Sisters of Mercy and Dubioza Kolektiv, and followed by a series of dates in Germany, Croatia and Romania.
• The 2023 European summer tour included solo and festival performances in Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and a spectacular show at Global Village Stage at the Sziget festival in Budapest.
• At the moment, the band is in the studio working on the new songs and scheduling the release of the new single “Elvis” in December 2023, followed by the new album in the spring 2024, while booking the dates for the album release tour.
