A product of the work of Cans Lyf, a debut release on the London based label.
In places, the band’s drawn out atmospheric introductions & intervals allow listeners to immerse themselves completely in the young band’s journey of lived experiences. Kopper’s on-stage identity is all inclusive in charisma & contemporary motives that reflect the band’s involvement with the arts scene around them, as shown by their flirtations with traditional rock outfits, ranging from The Cure, to quoted inspiration from bands such as Radiohead providing energizing dynamism to the band’s sound. Much of the band’s current discography, reflect both soft & tender vocals as well as the band’s ability to produce inspiriating power chords and guitar fuzz, with seemingly ease.
The band’s latest video provides an insight into the band’s ominous creative direction, with animated & glitching masks clouding each member’s face, the video immediately portrays shifting personalities & emotions towards new listeners in their title track: “Fading Fires”. Descending into a sprawling & carnivorous blend of heaving guitar noise, the track is idyllic of influences from like-minded artists such as IDLES, Thee Oh Sees & YAK, which have all in their own shape & form, reflected in Kopper’s recordings, image & live shows.
4-track EP ‘Fading Fires’, Kopper’s current release hosts tracks varying in stature, playing to strengths in creating enormous, riff driven tracks. ‘Sisyphus Smile’, is an enigmatic rise through the emotions, providing an uplifting introduction to their noise-driven aura. Whilst ‘Empty Stores’ combines raging outbursts of thunderous rock, mixed with a distinct anglo-punk twist - Kopper’s podium track for moshers and headbangers alike. The EP’s closing track, Luminescent Womb feels aerial and momentus in stature, leveling the playing field on an absorbing collection.
Debut single, ‘Winter Sun’, showcases the band’s dynamic musical ability, pushing limits with borderline spoken word lyricism, touching base on topics of separation & despair, reflected by the tracks’ trickling introduction, lunging verses & uproaring outro.
Be advised, on record is half-the experience compared to the band’s enigmatic live spectacles. Kopper’s contrast between traditional noise-rock & hints of energy towards the late 10’s UK post-punk scene, puts the band in good stead to impress a wide range of audiences up and down the UK, and beyond.
