Taking inspiration from her experiences as a child of a big immigrant family and as a part of gen Y, she weaves everyday stories and thoughts into alt pop, rnb and soul songs.
While music has always been an integral part of her life, intense stage fright and a sensitive nature have prevented her from creating and performing music in the past. Only in the last year has Julia Karr burst onto the local music scene, capturing audiences with soulful performances and surprising authenticity. Her music is a combination of her multicultural upbringing, an emotional soul, a newly-discovered sense of playful exploration as well as her neo-soul, indie rnb and alt pop influences.
Julia Karr released her first self-produced single, “Not Your Cup of Tea”, in early 2020, after which she paired up with various producers to develop further ideas. For her upcoming, fourth release called “The Flower”, Julia Karr worked with producer Stefan Weith on a collection of songs which will be released over the course of the next few months. The songs tackle such themes as friendships, love, heartache, purpose and life in general. In the song “The Flower” the artist reflects on her nature, past choices and being a “late” but sturdy bloomer. The song has an alt pop / soul feel, and Julia’s music takes inspiration from well-known as well as upcoming artists such as BENEE, Mahalia, Billie Eilish, Amy Winehouse, Miraa May and Kate Nash.
