The Jerko Jurin Quartet is a contemporary jazz quartet that performs original jazz music influenced by various eras and styles of jazz, inspired by artists like Kneebody, Kendrick Scott, Dave Holland, Jaga Jazzist, Ambrose Akinmusire, Flying Lotus, Radiohead, Boards of Canada, Madlib, Daedalus, and Alessandro Cortini.

The quartet's compositions intertwine elements of
contemporary jazz, such as improvisation over complex forms and harmonic progressions,
textures of contemporary electronic music, soundscapes of ambient music, the energy of rock,
and the expressiveness of experimental music. In 2024, they released the critically acclaimed
album Deceptive Simplicity (Cantus), which they promoted at the JazzHR festival.

The quartet consists of exceptional young jazz musicians – Pavle Jovanović on electric guitar,
Luka Čapeta on electric guitar, Hrvoje Kralj on double bass and electric bass guitar, and Jerko
Jurin on drums. The quartet has performed at numerous venues and festivals in Croatia, such
as the Jazz from the Woods series in Koprivnica, the Barone Jazz Festival in Šibenik, the 29th
Jazz in the Lapidarium festival in Poreč, and the AJMO! project (WeMoveMusic) in Dubrovnik.

„A certain perfectionism in approach is evident right from the opening track „Bonus Level“, authored by Luka Čapeta, which is reflected in the simultaneous simplicity and complexity of the soundscape, the interesting interactions among the band members, and their playful role-switching. On one hand, Čapeta and Jovanović, who have developed a unique way of communicating, and on the other, Jurin and Kralj, with their spatial-temporal play with rhythm.“ – Melanija Pović Jagarinec, Glazba.hr

„Jurin's drumming expression gives his quartet originality and strength that few can demonstrate. The fantastic, virtuosic guitar passages of Luka Čapeta, combined with Jovanović’s special „touch“, form an excellent blend of musicians who understand each other very well and know how to shape that into exciting and original compositions that seamlessly (or not) merge jazz with other musical genres. Deceptive Simplicity is an album of solid and powerful musical expression that will leave many in awe, but also open their eyes, as someone has finally dared to step outside the boundaries, exploring new spaces within jazz.“ – Dubravko Jagatić, Nacional

„Anyway, that evening, the members of the Jerko Jurin Quartet casually stepped onto the stage and played an excellent set, full of interesting grooves, harmonies, and great interplay between the band members. Starting with the track „Bonus Level“, the quartet repeatedly illustrated how each of its members is a highly capable musician; Jurin with frequent changes in rhythm and meter, reminiscent of, say, Mark Guiliana's solo projects or Jojo Mayer's Nerve, and when you see so many pedals on the floor in front of the bassist and the two guitarists, you know something special is coming.“ – Nikola Bašić, Glazba.hr

„The music of the Jerko Jurin Quartet generally stems from modern expressions of improvised music, electronics, and some very interesting rhythmic compositions, like those of Mark Guiliana, who also combines electronics with acoustic instruments or, in fact, imitates electronic music through acoustic musical interpolations. The members of this quartet are truly well-rehearsed as a band and have created a mutual chemistry and interaction that is captured on the album, which the audience recognized.“ – Borna Šercar, Glazba.hr
