Dreamy, synth-driven melodies, cinematic progressions, powerful pop vocals, and punchy beats – this is the sonic palate of alt-pop duo EMERGER, formed by Emma de Goede (lead vocalist / pianist), and Gerry Matthee (producer / multi-instrumentalist), while studying music at the University of Cape Town.

EMERGER has had an overwhelmingly positive response since the launch of their project and release of their debut mini-album 'Bloom' in 2018. They’ve been making waves both nationally and overseas. Most notably, their debut single, ‘Break & Fall’ was a winner of the Avid and Abbey Road Studios International Song Contest, picked from nearly 5000 international entries. They had the opportunity to travel to Abbey Road Studios in London for the mastering of this winning song. They were selected as Apple Music's New Artist Spotlight for the month of July (2018). Their music has been featured on various Apple Music playlists, including 10 Albums You Must Hear This Month (July) as well as on the BBC Introducing radio show in the UK.

‘Bloom’ was written, recorded and produced by the duo. To finish it off, some of SA’s best sound-mixers worked on ‘Bloom’, including Johnny de Ridder (Fokofpolisiekar), David Langemann (Freshlyground) and Andrew Rawbone-Viljoen (Diamond Thug), with mastering by Christian Wright (Radiohead, Coldplay) at Abbey Road Studios in London, where the duo also attended the session.

In January 2019, EMERGER hosted their sold out Live Launch at The Raptor Room in Cape Town. Since then they have played to audiences at the Castle of Good Hope, Café Roux, The House of Machines, Aces ’n' Spades and Mercury Live with their slick live act. Most recently, the duo was approached by Bad Weather Productions to collaborate with them for Mediatech Africa 2019, where they got to perform their music, synced to incredible visuals at the Blackbox stage at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.

The duo plays various instruments throughout their performance as part of their dynamic live set (Gerry plays various guitars, bass and synths, and Emma sings and plays keyboard). They perform as a duo, but frequently invite musicians to join them on stage (e.g. drummer, trumpeter, etc.).

EMERGER continues to perform in and around Cape Town and is currently in studio, working on exciting new singles and music videos that will be released towards the second half of 2019. ‘Bloom’ Vinyls and CD’s are also available for sale at they’re shows and at Roastin’ Records in Cape Town.
