Not So Pretty Reckless | Single | 2016 |
Taking both lyrical and production inspiration from the newer sounds of Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding and The 1975, her songs have been recognized on a regional level as profoundly relevant.
Knowing that a life behind the scenes wouldn’t ever equate to her ambitious dreams, Nattrass auditioned for a place on the commercial music course at Tring Park School of the Performing Arts in 2015. Despite evident potential gaining her a place, her financial background didn’t cover the costs, and so she returned to Sixth Form to pursue her academic studies.
Never to be disheartened, the singer/songwriter entered ‘Soundwave UK’, a competition within the North-Eastern region which recognizes unsigned talent. Up against around 500 entrants, her original music landed her a place in the final showcase at the 02 Academy in Newcastle, where Capital Radio’s Matt, JoJo and Borg described the, then 16 year old, as ‘a natural talent that brought the entire place to life.’
Since her journey began as a self-taught musician at the age of 14, Nattrass has written over 100 songs that tell tales of the love, heartache, and new-found independence when growing up in her generation. Deeply personal, yet out in the open air, the stories told are those that people identify with, so much so that their pain can be reborn into something ridiculously catchy.
Winning Track of the Week on BBC Tees 'BBC Introducing programme, her debut single, ‘Not So Pretty Reckless’ tells of the way Nattrass feels about herself and those around her, depicting her current state as a combination of cynicism and lack of direction. However, she does so in a way that sounds so deliriously content and carefree that this synth-pop track offers itself as the soundtrack to the lives of many.
With ambitions that are bursting to be brought to life, Chloe Nattrass has taken her first step forward in what she describes as a bid to capture the hearts of the public, of the industry, and of you.
