GROOVE WITH NO FEAR - “Brit-Funk brilliance” - B&S ATMOSFEAR creates music that makes people dance.

Our music embraces all genres especially groove, and always contains elements of juicy Jazz Funk with a little Latin and Reggae vibes.

It all started in 1979 with a group of friends with ambitions of becoming musicians with a naive audacity and passion for creating original dance music. That innocent mindset and fearless pursuit resulted in the revered classic tracks - ‘Dancing in Outer Space’, ‘Motivation’, ‘Invasion’, ‘Extract’ and ‘Xtra Special’ to name a few.

In 2019, the legendary band continued their cosmic journey under co-founder Lester J Batchelor, expanding on the concept of groove with no FEAR!

The new tracks are still initiated and created by Batchelor, supported by the ATMOSFEAR funk family collective which includes long term keyboardist Peter Hinds (BFA, Light of the World, Incognito), joined by new Brit Funk brother and Jazz master Mr Orphy 'Vibes' Robinson MBE and the ever inventive vocals of Shelley 'Deeizm' Debenham.

Through them, the ATMOSFEAR DNA lives on, striving to make authentic music with positive energy and wicked vibes that’s always just a little different. Those of you who follow the band and have witnessed their live performances . . . You know!

ATMOSFEAR were a revered studio band in their heyday and never performed live, so their recent live stage performances are seen as un-finished business for Lester. There are many more Live shows planned in the pipe-line, along with new recording offers coming in from several producers in the UK, Japan and the USA.

Atmosfear are widely regarded as one of the UK’s most influential bands of the early 80’s. and their timeless debut single ‘Dancing in Outer Space’ has stood the test of time and is now considered a dance floor classic that still shakes the bars and clubs around the world today.

So many samples, re-issues and many remixes later their music lives on. New York DJ’s Masters at Work Kenny 'Dope' Gonzales and 'Little' Louie Vega have faithfully remixed their versions of “Dancing in Outer Space”. and “Alternative ll”, While Paris based DJ Dimitri chose to re-mix several versions of “Motivation”.

In 1982 Lester Batchelor wrote a song called “Xtra Special” that was to showcase the vocal talents of Beverley Skeete, one of the UK’s finest, most prolific singers and lead vocalist with Bill Wyman’s band - Rhythm Kings. This song was covered by Dolette McDonald for New York dance music record label - BC Records. Dolette is best known for her work with Sting in his Nu-Jazz period, and David Byrne of Talking Heads.

Atmosfear are from Northwest London, and were formed originally in 1978. They are generally regarded today as one of the pioneers of the UK’s “Britfunk Movement” along with the likes of Hi Tension, Light of the World, Incognito, Loose Ends, Savanna, Beggar & Co, Central Line, Freeze and Level 42 amongst others.

The success of their first two singles saw them enter the British pop charts and secure a recording contract with MCA records.

Atmosfear were just a little different from their compatriots, their music heavily influenced by a blend of Jazz Funk, Funk, Reggae, Latin and Electronic dance music. The experimental interpretation of Jazz Fusion they created was quite difficult to categorise, but became the term we know today as Brit Funk.

The band’s original lineup changed since the release of their first album En-Trance in 1981 and several singles. Only Lester J. Batchelor remained as the consistent creative driving force and continued to write a number of songs and instrumentals that are now lost in secret vaults somewhere!

2020 may just be the time to reveal the gems hidden within those vaults
