The band combines rock, pop and folk traditions with a distinctive three-part vocal harmony sound. Styles and moods range from lively indie rock to contemplative pop ballads, via an occasionally progressive element. The group's live perfromances have been described as "brooding" and "energetic", and their ability to "tame an audience" has been remarked upon. Based in Staffordshire, near Stoke-on-Trent, the band had its first live exposure at the NME-celebrated Sugarmill. Since this, 'Sunset have continued to perform at celebrated venues and have live experience of Manchester, as well as festivals - some headlined by chart-topping acts. As well as gigging and recording tirelessly, Vienna Sunset have had radio exposure - working with several local stations (BBC Radio Stoke, Signal 1 and 6 Towns Radio). Most recently 6 Towns Radio invited the band in for a live session and interview, only a fortnight after playing one of the group's most requested tracks. The band is currently in the closing stages of recording its debut LP, a double album due for release in 2016. Vienna Sunset have always been praised on their harmonies and vocal arrangements, with the mantra always being "if you're in then you sing" - this, hopefully, would be the most immediately impactful feature of their performance at Montrose.
