„I guess you could say I was always the last guest at a party, I never skipped an opportunity for mindless fun and erotic endeavours. It’s no longer about that. Truth is my addiction“, says Lou about his life in the nineties.
After spending years on a musical odyssey through the United States, which he financed with the odd-job and gigs in local bars, he arrived in Germany where his ancestors are from. There he meets songwriter and guitarist Torsten Drever, singer Oliver Wengeler and the keyboard player Peter Albert. Over the course of their jam-sessions, the three musicians quickly become the musical mirror of Lou’s torn soul. Torsten is tasked with writing about the different stages of Lou Baxter’s moving biography. The melancholy of long-lost lovers, his self-destructive attempt at regular life and meeting his soulmate on a road-trip to New York, his last stop before flying away to Germany, disillusioned from the more recent events in US-history all become part of TLBP's songs. One might be forgiven for thinking that the songs encapsulate a single vision of life, but the lyrics succeed at finding a universal angle to Lou’s experiences that speak to all of us.
„Start it up – a gasoline frenzy! The music swells in four-stroke beats“ (Gasoline frenzy, 2021)
The Lou Baxter Project: the first songs and their DIY-roots
In March of 2021 The Lou Baxter Project picks up speed. Torsten writes the first lyrics and records song-ideas all of which are the results of long conversations about Lou’s life and his view on the human condition. He sends those to his friends Oliver and Peter, whom he has known for over two decades now. The trio has been creative together and with others all this time and is thrilled to produce and present their music as The Lou Baxter Project.
They bridge their geographical distance by using modern technology like audiointerfaces, DAWs, audio-plugins and cloud-drives in order to share the files, which Oliver produces into groovy essays about Lou’s life.
On the 10th of March, 2021 The Lou Baxter Project releases their first single Bloody knuckles to all major streaming services including Spotify™, Apple Music™, Deezer™ and YouTube Music™. They quickly follow up with Magnolia Motel and Gasoline Frenzy – all of them danceable retrospectives on Lou’s stirring past.
With the release of „Fly away" the band has finally found their musical style… or have they?
The Lou Baxter Project: modern songwriting meets brass-sections and retro-organs
The intricate brass arrangements of The Lou Baxter Project are reminiscent of white tuxedos and black bowties. The dirty organ sounds with their Leslie-effect delight fans of the 70s. Groovy drums and modern synths connect their sound to today’s music. Oliver’s expressive melodies run like a golden thread through their music and firmly establish their brand recognition. Torsten’s guitars leave the beaten track and change from Tarantino-style sounds to funky riffs.
The Lou Baxter Project has its very own personality and is hard to pigeon-hole into just one genre. It stands for glamorous retro rock with the sound of the new millennium. Start it up, the engine growls. The music drives - the crowd goes wild!
***GERMAN VERSION***
The Lou Baxter Project:
Start it up, the engine growls. The music drives – the crowd goes wild!
