The Crimson Star is the hottest new rock band in the West Midlands.

With one brilliant EP under their belt and another ready to drop, the Birmingham fourpiece is looking to add its name to the list of fantastic rock bands to emerge from the middle of England.

The line up of singer/guitarist James Shaw, drummer Ross Edgington, bassist Chris Rowley and guitarist Dave Musson was finalised early in 2013 and the young band made its live debut in April of the same year. From there, they went from strength to strength playing some great shows and forming a reputation as a brilliant live band. This was underlined by a ferocious headline show at a packed O2 Academy 3 in Birmingham to launch their EP – New Road – last August and the fact that The Crimson Star were one of just five bands selected to play the Planet Rock stage at this year’s Bike4Life Fest.

The EP was received favourably by Powerplay Magazine, The Midlands Rocks and Intamission Music amongst others, while the band has also received radio play on BBC 6Music, BBC WM, TBFM and more.

Early in 2014, The Crimson Star released a video for the song ‘The Greed Effect’. The clip - shot, edited and produced by the band – stars global competitive eating celebrity Randy Santel as he took on a metre-long chilli dog, and was added to the KrankTV channel on YouTube receiving almost 3,000 views so far.

The band also has a great heart; last December they organised, booked and promoted their own charity Christmas gig, playing in festive fancy dress and raising £300 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Last year’s New Road EP showcased a well-rounded, multi-dimensional hard rock band, with the big riffs of ‘Some Other Way’ and ‘New Road’ mixing with the classic rock tinged ‘Shine On Me’ and ‘Hey You’ and the driving power of ‘The Greed Effect’. The band has continued to write some fantastic, rocking songs and the forthcoming follow up EP is set to be another corker, with the songs already going down a storm during the band’s gigs.

The new EP - a three-track collection called No Ordinary Love - was recorded over a scorching weekend in May 2014 and showcases the band's development as songwriters and confidence in their abilities. The title track has a hook that you'll be humming for hours after you hear it, 'Coercion' packs classic rock riffing with the band's biggest chorus yet, while 'A Darker Shade' is full of punk energy and furious drumming.

The Crimson Star is a band on the up – make sure you’re there for the ride!
