Soul Surge Short Info

How far is South Africa from Hungary? More than ten thousand kilometers, but when it comes to music, there is no distance.

Three years ago Herby Shaw, a South-African rapper and vocalist got into music jam in a pub in Hungary. A young Hungarian drummer, Daniel Santa joined into the improvisation. By the time the jamming finished, the young Hungarian drummer was more than sure he would form a band with his brand new South-African mate and other young and talented Hungarian musicians.

They quickly teamed up with trained musicians. The various music background of Soul Surge members also appears in their songs including pop, funk spiced up with hip-hop.

Having existed for only one month, Soul Surge entered an upcoming music band contest. They won it without doubts. Prize awarded was studio time and due to that they could have their first songs recorded.

In March 2013, Soul Surge released the first EP called "Stay Down". Their songs have been played by Hungarian music radios. Since their initial and spectacular success Soul Surge was invited to play a show at the famous Hungarian venue A38 boat. Their concert was recorded by the Hungarian national TV station, and broadcasted two times.

In 2014, the band was supported by the National Cultural Fund to record an album and play a Hungarian/Romanian tour with the well-known Hungarian band Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra.

The musical talent of Soul Surge convinced the Hungarian music experts to give a chance to play at the main Hungarian festivals including Sziget festival, Volt festival, EFOTT festival and many others.

In September the band released its first album titled "That's What's Up”. Featuring Sena, the frontman of the 2015 Sziget Festival anthem composer Irie Maffia.

In the spring of 2016 the Hungarian Music Program provided the opportunity to organize the first European tour of Soul Surge.
