Born in Baden (Austria), Roland Schalken began studying classical piano at the age of nine.
With the age of 13 he heard jazz for the first time.. Since then Roland studied jazz autodidactically. At the age of 18 he entered the Joseph Haydn Conservatoire in Eisenstadt (Austria) studying jazz piano with Prof. Johann Hausl. At the moment he is studying at the ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem (Netherlands) with Jeroen van Vliet.
