Nordmann is taking Belgium by storm.

Their mixture of jazz, rock and creative experiment driven by an unique sound and energy is set to make them a favourite on the Belgian live circuit. Nordmann’s restless rhythms and grinding grooves alternate with intimate soundscapes and open improvisation.
The band formed two years’ ago in Ghent, where the four young musicians were students. They refined and matured their idiosyncratic style and jazz contest successes quickly followed. Winners of the Belgian Muziekmozaiek Jazz Contest 2012 and the Storm! Jazzwedstrijd 2013, Nordmann took third place in the prestigious international jazz contest at Jazz Hoeilaart 2013. Furthermore Nordmann achieved a very nice second place in Humo’s Rock Rally 2014.
The compositions are off-the-wall, home-baked creations that go from desert-rock to avant-garde but all with their distinctive sound. The playing is daring, sometimes explosive but always honest and often with a quirky sense of humour.

The Ghent-based nordmann is one of those rare bands with the vision and the talent to redefine the progrock genre. They themselves prefer the term progressive jazzrock: combining desert rock with virtuoso improvisation and open soundscapes, the outcome is a mindbending, provocative listen.
Their first EP was produced by Jasper Maekelberg and is more than a foretaste of the debut album which will be released on February 20th 2015. Throughout these 3 songs they guide you into their own unique musical universe where they display enough musical ideas to fill a full album. The band, heralded at Humo’s Rock Rally for their sheer energy and primal force, apparently shows abundant compository inventiveness, delicate soloing and suspense-building.
The Pedestrian: In this case a pedestrian with a guilty conscience. A conscience which plays him parts troughout the whole song. A song which could be the soundtrack for a good film noir. The sax of Matthias De Craene leads us irresistibly into the dark universe of Nordmann. Broad melodies drag you into a dark alley, where we are chased by the devil himself. The outro of the song is built around a compelling riff in which jazz is mixed with 90’s alternative rock, as if Jonny Greenwood suddenly took a masterclass with Django Reinhardt. The ultimate climax demonstrates otherworldly class.
Dehli Belly: Dehli Belly is the slumbering follow-up to The Pedestrian. Nordmann manages to preserve unbroken tension, like a god putting a storm above your head which always threatens to burst from the heavens but never really happens. When listening to this song, it’s like looking for shelter at the same time as looking in awe at the majestic violence.
Rups: Nordmann describes their own music as jazz with influences from progressive rock and honors this description with their last song from the EP, Rups. As a barrel of dynamite, exploding without need for a fuse, rups emerges from the start and never lets go of head and hips. Nordmann goes further on the path which King Crimson helped take shape on their first record: steaming 70’s rock with epileptic drums and complex meters. This song is ready to become a remarkable radio hit!
Nordmann will present their debut album on februari 20th at the STORM Festival in Oostende, which will also be the release date of the record. The supporting tour will take them to all the importantBelgian clubs and festivals (AB, Handelsbeurs, Muziekodroom, Trix,…) Nordmann will perform twice in one of Belgiums most sacred music temples, the Ancienne Belgique, where they will share the bill with Archie Shepp, Colin Stetson, Rudresh Mahanthappa and Black Flower. They will also perform at all major Belgian clubs such as De Handelsbeurs, Muziekodroom, Flagey and many others.
