Swedish pop siren Ninsun Poli is to release her debut EP in the UK Breaking Rules on the 28th April.

The EP is produced by Johan T Karlsson aka Familjen, who has previously remixed Lykke Li, Rex The Dog and Fever Ray.

Recorded in the living room of her family home in Stockholm, Breaking Rules debuts an edgier sound for Ninsun, following the release of her critically acclaimed ‘For Real’ EP in 2004 which earned her the accolade of Sweden’s next hope for soul on Scandinavian radio. Her live shows have been hailed as incredibly impressive, clear performances and she’s smashed the Swedish festival circuit.

The opening track on the EP Breaking Rules is destined to be a club favourite. Ninsun’s gravelly vocal is underpinned by rumbling drums, driving the track with insistence and urgency, building into an epic trance classic, a slap in the face opening to an excellent EP.

Track 2 on the EP, Hey Lover is a call to arms of lovers everywhere. The dark and gritty video for the single also shows Ninsun possessing a rather uncanny resemblance to Lady Gaga. The rest of the EP provides a diverse selection of songs planting itself firmly within the realm of electronic music with elements of rock and pop weaving through it. The EP is gelled together by Ninsun’s Karen O from the Yeah `Yeah Yeahs meets Stevie Nicks vocal style. Raunchy and defiant, her voice injects her songs with raw emotion and passionate angst.

With songs like Faces and Do It it’s easy to see why Ninsun is tipped as a bright young star in native Sweden. Haunting and minimal production that drops like a depth charge, to perfectly compliment the brooding nature of Ninsun’s vocals.
