NGUVU, a word that translates to Power, Force and Energy.

Combining a well-rounded style that blends Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, Afro-beats, Jazz, and many others, NGUVU are the embodiment of the sum being greater than the parts: it’s its own beast, that feeds on the variety of influences of the musicians and creators involved, to create one, neat, core-hitting package.

Formed in 2017 by drummer and composer Jamal Lewis-Service, NGUVU aims to provide the Manchester and UK scene with a powerful experience, an outfit in which you will find a familiar underlying sound, but presented under a unique light.

The NGUVU family includes artists that stretch across all styles, with a shared love for performing and pushing the boundaries - such as J Chambers, Manchester based rapper and spoken word artist, and Julie E Gordon - who featured in the works of the likes of Happy Mondays, Kasabian, and so many other triple-A acts.

Reviews

“NGUVU deliver that perfect blend of rock and soul among many other genres that showcase their collective talent in their new EP titled ‘Julie’, out July 19th. Each song blends different styles and time signatures with the smooth and sultry vocals of frontwoman Julie E. Gordon that culminate into a luscious bite of audio bliss and an undoubtedly live spectacle.”

One of the best things about my past life is that I still get quite a few promos land in my inbox. Most are complete and utter crap from bands who should never have made it out of the garage.. but every so often a diamond shines brightly amongst all the crap. NGUVU (nope I’d never heard of them either) featuring Julie E Gordon is one such group of artists and their bloody brilliant ep ‘Julie’ is set to land on 19th July.
Their Pr splurge says “You may not see it coming, but you’ll feel it when it hits you.” And never has a truer group of words been spoken.. Hit me square on the jaw and never saw it coming.

NGUVU @ JAZZTAPOSITION-17/12/19

"An outstanding band with an astonishing set, NGUVU are a true hidden gem on the upcoming music scene.
Merging beautiful blends of Jazz, Neo Soul, Hip Hop and Afro-beat Funk, this band leave you flying high on pure groove!

Upon the first note blaring out, the crowd were instantly off their seats and moving their feet to the wild and exotic rhythms NGUVU have to offer.
From raw and gritty Sax lines, to lush and harmonious Guitar melodies this band really have it all. Smooth dreamlike jazz sections suddenly erupting into deep and funky grooves with dutty Bass lines that boom throughout the room.
And finally, Powerful, Bright and absolutely Enchanting Vocals with a tiny little rasp.

An incredible performance all in all, and did I forget to mention the fact that the drummer is also the rapper? And an amazing one too! Upon hearing him start with his fiery bars, I was instantly blown away!!"
