The band creates a special and distinctive sound, which may be described as Dark Melodic Metal or as Symphonic Power Metal with elements of Gothic and Thrash.

Powerful heavy guitar riffs with classical orchestral keyboard sound and energetic drumming, frames the melancholic poetries of diversified and powerful male vocals. The lyrics are about hurt, anger and frustration but also about hope and desire in a very vivid way.
With its mystic and dark, epic and aggressive, melodic and emotional tunes, MOONCRY creates a truly dynamic and touching atmosphere.

The band was founded in 2006 by young and creative musicians, but also by experienced performers.

In 2007 MOONCRY released their debut album “Legacy of Hope” which received a lot of positive feedback by magazines and websites. Through an interview and a sample track in the well-known German Metal magazine “Legacy” and impressing live performances (E. g. MyMusic expo), MOONCRY had soon become quite popular in southern Germany.

In 2010 MOONCRY produced their second long player „ Rivers of Heart“ at the Empire Studios of Rolf Munkes (Tony Martin/ex Black Sabbath). This record was again rated exceptionally well and was also followed by an interview and a sample track in the “Legacy” magazine.
Finally in July 2010 MOONCRY signed a first worldwide distribution deal.

In May 2011 MOONCRY played at the biggest European metal festival on Metalfest Helvetia, together with bands like Sabaton, Amorphis, Amon Amarth, Rage, Cradle of Filth, Arch Enemy, Wintersun, Thaurorod etc.

In July 2011 one of the biggest German independent promotion labels CMM (e. g. Iron Maiden, Slayer, Megadeth, Queensryche, Savatage, Halford) became aware of MOONCRY and the band signed a new distribution deal with CMM’s division SAOL.

In early 2012 the heavy-magazine „Stormbringer“ nominated „Rivers of Heart“ as the best album of 2011, and MOONCRY as surprise of the year 2011.
In spring 2012 MOONCRY was tour support for the band „Serenity“ and later MOONCRY was Headliner together with the legendary band AXXIS.

In 2013 MOONCRY recorded their 3rd Album „A Mirror’s Diary“, again at the Empire Studios of Rolf Munkes. With this new disc the band managed to present not only their further musical development by sticking to the path of their previous album, but even enter an absolutely new level of Dark Melodic Metal: More powerful, more epic and more dynamic than ever before.

In early 2014 the heavy-magazine Crossfire nominated “A Mirror’s Diary” for rank 3 of the top ten albums of 2013.
In April 2014 MOONCRY received the rating for “Masters of Symphonic Metal” and performed together with Leaves’ Eyes and Delain at the festival with the same name.

In July 2015 MOONCRY performed at the Metaldays festival in Slovenia, beside bands like Saxon, Fear Factory, Queensryche and Devin Townsend Project.
At the very end of 2015 MOONCRY was again part of the epical "Masters of Symphonic Metal" together with Beyond the Black and Masterplan.

In early 2016 the magazine “Metal over the South” nominated “A Mirror’s Diary” for the album of the year 2015.
In September 2016 MOONCRY entered with the song “The Beast Within Me” straight on rank no. 26 of the Cashbox US National Airplay Top 50 Rock Charts, and against well known artists like Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Beck and Volbeat they climbed up to rank no. 16.

MOONCRY – Unverwechselbarer Dark Melodic Metal

MOONCRY kommen aus dem süddeutschen Bodenseeraum und haben einen speziellen, eigenständigen Sound, welcher sich als Dark Melodic Metal beschreiben lässt, oder auch als symphonischer Power Metal mit leichten Gothic- und Thrash-Einflüssen.
Energiegeladenes, powervolles Gitarren-Riffing, verbunden mit klassischem, orchestralen Keyboardsound und druckvollem Drumming, umrahmt den facettenreichen und kraftvollen Gesang melancholischer Poesie. Die Songs erzählen sehr bildhaft von Verletzungen, Wut und Enttäuschungen, von Sehnsüchten und Hoffnungen.
So schafft MOONCRY mit mystischen und dunklen, epischen und aggressiven, melodischen und gefühlvollen Klängen eine besondere Atmosphäre mit viel Dynamik, welche in ihrer Einzigartigkeit unter die Haut geht.

Die Band wurde 2006 gegründet und besteht aus jungen und kreativen, aber auch sehr erfahrenen und gestandenen Live-Musikern.

2007 veröffentlichten MOONCRY ihr Debüt-Album „Legacy of Hope“. Viele positive Pressestimmen, Interview und Auskopplung auf dem Sampler des Magazins Legacy sowie beeindruckende Live-Performances (u. Die CD wurde mit durchweg sehr positiven Reviews hervorragend aufgenommen, wiederum erfolgte eine Auskopplung sowie Interview im Legacy, und schließlich wurde im Juli 2010 ein erster weltweiter Vertriebsvertrag unterschrieben.

Im Mai 2011 traten MOONCRY im Rahmen des grössten europäischen Metalfestivals beim Metalfest Helvetia Open Air auf, neben Bands wie Sabaton, Amorphis, Amon Amarth, Cradle of Filth, Arch Enemy, Wintersun etc. CMM, ein grosses deutsches Independent-Promotion-Label (u. a. 2013 nahmen MOONCRY ihr drittes Album „A Mirror’s Diary“ auf, wiederum in den Empire-Studios von Rolf Munkes. Mit dieser neuen Scheibe gelang es auf dem bereits mit dem vorhergehenden Album eingeschlagenen Weg nicht nur die musikalische Weiterentwicklung eindrucksvoll zu präsentieren, sondern sogar nochmals eine ganz neue Stufe des Dark Melodic Metal zu betreten: Kraftvoller, epischer und dynamischer als je zuvor.

Anfang 2014 wurde „A Mirror’s Diary“ vom Heavy-Magazin Crossfire auf Platz 3 der Top Ten des Jahres 2013 gewählt.
Im April 2014 erhielten MOONCRY das Prädikat „Masters of Symphonic Metal“ und traten unter Anderem mit Leaves' Eyes und Delain beim gleichnamigen Festival auf.

Im Juli 2015 traten MOONCRY bei den Metaldays in Slowenien auf, neben Bands wie Saxon, Fear Factory, Queensryche und Devin Townsend Project.
Sogar ein weiteres Mal waren Mooncry Ende 2015 bei den "Masters of Symphonic Metal" wieder dabei, zusammen mit Beyond the Black und Masterplan.

Anfang 2016 kürte das Magazin „Metal over the South“ das Album „A Mirror’s Diary“ zum Album des Jahres 2015.
Im September 2016 stiegen MOONCRY mit dem Song "The Beast Within Me" direkt auf Platz 26 der Cashbox US National Airplay Top 50 Rock Charts ein, und sicherten sich in den darauffolgenden Wochen gegen so bekannte Acts wie Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Beck und Volbeat den Platz 16.
