Sama Yoon” [sama yon] in the Senegalese Wolof language means: “my way”, “my choice”.

This name reflects the specific musical path the band is exploring, leading through styles such as Afrobeat, Reggae and more in general World Music.

Mamadou & Sama Yoon was founded in 2014 by the Senegalese musician Mamadou Diouf and saxophonist Grzegorz Rytka and is currently made up of musicians having a long record of cooperation with many leading Polish bands.
Mamadou Diouf is a Senegalese singer, (radio) dj, journalist, cultural animator, community activist and a graduated veterinarian. In his lyrics, sung mainly in Wolof, his mother language, Mamadou recounts of the longing for his country, love, tradition, respect for others, the search for knowledge. At concerts each song is preceded with a short lecture on its contents. Thus each concert transforms into a fascinating journey through African culture and tradition and combined with the rhythmic melodies becomes a feast for body and soul.
The first album of the group – titled: “Umbada” – was released in the spring of 2016, by publishing house FOR TUNE.
