Established in early 2016, LUNA TIDES is the brainchild of musician and filmmaker Thomas James.

Thomas grew up in the Vale of Glamorgan where his parents’ eclectic collections of folk and rock records helped forge his love for music. As a result of this, influences range from Paul Simon, to Pink Floyd and Wings. LUNA TIDES chose his name in a way that any great artist should. “I couldn’t decide on a name,” says singer Thomas James. “I was agonising for weeks on end with different variations, the common theme was it had to be related to the ocean.” Taking influence from his home town's bewitching coastline in South Wales, creating an acoustic, folk-rock surf vibe, echoing the tones of Mumford & Sons and Newton Faulkner. Combining this sound with foot-stomping songs has generated a spirited response to the music. “It was only whilst in the studio I decided to flip a coin on it, relief flooded through me when it landed on heads, that’s when I realised it was meant to be LT all along.”

This was right before LUNA TIDES first show at The Full Moon, Cardiff. Thomas lights up remembering “I was so stoked to finally be performing! The same night of the first show there was this beautiful full moon, shining through a deep red sunset; it was like it was meant to be!.” The first track LUNA TIDES shared with the world was 'Over The Cliffs' a dreamy acoustic track which combines Thomas’s soothing percussive guitar with his trademark warm vocals. A song, according to Indie Buddy, that ‘keeps rattling around your head days after listening!’ It was picked up by blogs immediately. “I put it online, and people actually listened to it” says Thomas. “And then I started getting emails from people. I got more shows and even got asked to send it over to Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6. It was crazy!”

The debut EP 'Open Woods' was praised by the likes of BBC Radio Wales’ Bethan Eflyn & Adam Walton, as well as being featured on BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson ‘FOTN’ Mixtape. Celebrating the release of the latest single, 'Young Laws' in February 2018, the release held a SOLD OUT show at Off Track Cafe in his home city, Cardiff.

Celebrating the release of the debut EP 'Open Woods' in November 2016, Thomas, joined by fellow musicians Sion Walsh and Rhys Plaister, held a sold-out release show at the renown Clwb Ifor Bach in his home city, Cardiff. This led to being interviewed by and performing live on air for Jamie Owen at BBC Radio Wales. Praised by the likes of BBC Radio Wales’ Bethan Eflyn & Adam Walton, as well as being featured on BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson ‘FOTN’ Mixtape. Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response from national media, Thomas and company set out on their first UK tour in January 2017, supporting the likes of Toploader and (hand picked by Tom Jones from The Voice) Into The Ark, as well as playing multiple festivals across the UK, including a London bound Sofar Sounds Session.

After a short break, LUNA TIDES emerged in August 2018 with the announcement of weekly short films, the first offering a live performance of the latest single ‘The Moment’. Followed dramatically by 12 more awe-inspiring short films, and finally closing the year with his latest short film - SILENCE. Described as ‘one of the brightest artists to come out of Wales in recent years’ by Glastonbury festival’s Joe Lepper, the LUNA TIDES story is one to follow. With new music on the way, good things are expected from this young artist!
