BIO

Winners of the Manchester Evening News CityLife Awards Breakthrough Act 2020, LIINES are a post-punk three piece from Manchester – Zoe McVeigh (vocals, guitar) and Leila O’Sullivan (drums) with a rotating live bassist. LIINES formed in 2014 and has built a reputation as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Manchester in recent years.

In the last few years they toured with Sleaford Mods, supported the likes of Ash, Hot Snakes and Slow Readers Club. They’ve been handpicked by Tim Burgess for slots at Kendal Calling and Cotton Clouds. They were Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition finalists (and performed twice at the festival). They were selected by BBC Introducing for Bluedot festival. And they’ve received radio play from a number of 6 Music DJs, Radio X’s John Kennedy, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and more.

Their sound is an infectious, urgent and at times furious blend of Riot Grrrl, post-punk and alt-rock sounds which take in elements of their collective influences. There’s the dark angular undertones and brooding introspection of Joy Division, the high energy of Pixies and the emotive, impassioned sound of Sleater-Kinney wrapped in catchy fast-paced riff-laden songs.

LIINES released debut album Stop-Start in May 2018 via Reckless Yes Records. They’ve since released singles Sorry, On and On and Keep on going. They’re currently working on their second album.

Previous bassists including founder-member Steph Walker (2014-2017), and Tamsin Middleton (2017-2019; currently Vice Vera; Formerly Mr Heart, ILL).
