In 2000s, Vanilla Ninja conquered music charts in Europe and Latin America. Vanilla Ninja represented Switzerland at Eurovision Song Contest 2005, where they reached 8th place; they also took part in Vina del Mar festival in Chile and won. As for now, Lenna is concentrating on her solo career that she carries on with band „Lenna”.
To date, the said group have released two albums – „Lenna” in 2010, and „Teine” in 2013. Both of them got sold-out and awarded multiple prestigeous prizes of Estonian music business, eg. „album of the year” for „Lenna” at Eesti Muusikaauhinnad 2011 gala and for „Teine” in 2014; or „song of the year” for the song „Rapunzel” in 2011. Release of the third album is planned for the end of 2017.
Besides the band, which is her main focus, Lenna has been co-operating with not only leading Estonian musicians, but also German and Italian music producers. Imagining a big event in Estonia without her name on the banner seems almost impossible nowadays. While preparing material for her previous albums, Lenna used country’s most praised composers’ help, however, her next CD will be a fruit of her own work only.
In 2015, Lenna participated in Estonian edition of a famouse TV show „Your face sounds familiar” and it was there that her fascination with Joni Mitchell’s works started, as she won one of the episodes with Mitchell’s „Big Yellow Taxi”. In 2016, the „Lenna Kuurmaa – Tribute to Joni Mitchell” project was formed. Since then, they performed their arrangements of Joni Mitchell’s songs three times, at Baltic states’ biggest jazz festival „Jazzkaar”. All concerts were sold-out and extremely well-received, both by the audience and media.
