"L&S" (Leddie & Smoggy) are an Independent Hip Hop duo from Middlesbrough.

The duo is comprised of female MC and beatmaker "Leddie" and male MC "Smoggy" whom met while attending Middlesbrough College in 2005. Prior to the pair becoming a duo, both MC's were members in the Middlesbrough based, 6 piece Hip Hop group - "Norf n Lights". The group performed at regular events in and around the North East of England, supporting the likes of Stig of the Dump and Dr Syntax, Manage and Conflix, Foreign Beggars and DJ Fever from the Nottingham Hip Hop group - Out Da Ville. Norf n Lights released a number of tracks together, as well as a self titled Mixtape late 2006 before coming to an early end in late 2007.

The duo (L&S) originally formed to perform at "The Peoples Army" launch party Jan '08 and have since supported the likes of - Logic and Lowkey, Genesis Elijah, Black the Ripper, Durrty Goodz, English Frank, Lunar C, Mic Righteous and UK Hip Hop veteran Chester P of Taskforce.

Their debut album [Sorry We're Late… ] aims to reconcile their individual music passions; fusing Hip Hop with elements of soul and blues with alliteration and machine gun etiquette rap. They have played on bills alongside artists such as - Devlin, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Mongrel (Comprised of Lowkey, Jon McClure, Andy Nicholson, Drew McConnell) and the King Blues – Reviewed as ‘the best live band in Britain’ by Kerrang Magazine, to UK Hip Hop legends; Lowkey, Logic, Skinnyman, Chester P (Taskforce). November 2009 saw the duo’s debut online release ‘The Calm Before the Storm’ mix CD which has had over 5000 downloads since its release in Nov ‘09, gaining support from premier Hip Hop sites such as StandUpUK, RagoMagazine and UKrunnings. Leddie has appeared on a number of Mix CD's which have been released on digital outlets, featuring alongside the likes of Logic, Lowkey, Genesis Elijah, Sway, Wordsmith, BigCakes and SuparNovar. She also had her collaboration with Logic and Lowkey (F The Feds from the “Calm Before the Storm” Mix CD) being included within a countdown of the top 100 UK Hip Hop tracks to ever be released, and the "UK Rap Chronicles" presented by UK Runnings. Their free download track "Part of the Process", released early January 2011 was featured on the DJ Ames "International Hustle UK Edition" hosted by the legendary MysDiggi (Formally known as Mystro) of Natural Born Spittaz.

May 2012 saw Leddie become the first female MC, as well as the first MC from the North East of England to be tagged into the online Cypher known as RapperTagUK (Hosted by Hoochinoo). Leddie was 'Tagged' by UK Hip Hop veteran - Genesis Elijah, she went on to tag her partner in rhyme - Smoggy. The online Cypher (Rappertag) was originally conceptualised by the Australian Hip Hop artist - 360. The rules are that an MC is invited into the online cypher by the MC that was tagged before them - ONLY when they are invited into the cypher are they welcome to show off their skills and lyrical ability.

Indeed, support for the duo has come from many different places in the media with features from local newspapers to worldwide Hip Hop websites, blogs and forums. Not forgetting interviews on airwaves such as the BBC, Community and University Radio, as well as an international range of internet radio shows, and underground Hip Hop specialists. Maybe it's not such a surprise that the pair’s fan base is so varied, from general music fans to UK Hip Hop veterans. Both make music from their heart and soul; never forgetting emotion, mysticism or struggle when creating their work in a ‘technically impressive’ manner.

Jan 8th, 2013 will see the duo's first single - "Walk the Line" release from their upcoming album - "Sorry We're Late…" scheduled to drop within the 2nd quarter of 2013.

Quotes About Leddie And Smoggy

"This Middlesborough duo are another in a line of acts bringing a social awareness back to UK Hip Hop. Throughout this process we’ve seen a lot of issues-based Urban tunes but this one hit the mark for us for it’s sheer exuberance and passion" - MTV Brand New (On Equals)

"A duo that consists of a female & male MC. Leddie & Smoggy are a rap collective that takes us back to the early beginnings of Hip Hop; when people rapped about issues that mattered to them. Days when rap was people’s way of expressing their feeling and emotions. Their track ‘Equals’ is very hard-hitting and yet it’s reminds us of what music use to be about. We love that fact that they’re bringing old’ skool to the new generation" - (1613) New Wave District

"What can I say about Leddie and Smoggy? Well the only thing that upsets me about the 'Calm Before the Storm' mixtape is the fact I had to wait so long for it!! They not only have a world of skill but also more integrity, honesty and heart than any artist in the UK scene today. Once again...Peoples Army Salute!!" - Genesis Elijah

"Her conscious mind, unbeatable flow, intellectual observations and magnetic personality all make her one of the top female MCs to spit on this little Island we call Britain in a long, long time." - Nino @ BritishHipHop.com

"Leddie and Smoggy is a female/male hip hip duo from Boro that draw their influences from the UK and the local rather than New York. They shy away from the commercial and instead home in on the real issues. There is plenty of local and wider political confrontation and razor sharp comment in their alliteration and breakneck delivery. Very impressive" - Robert Nichols

"Leddie and Smoggy are every inch Teesside and their urban music is now starting to hit targets further afield around the UK - it certainly did at the conference. They give the commercial hip-hop sounds a wide berth and instead plough their own furrow - or furrows, because Leddie's alliteration is quite different to Smoggy's machine gun etiquette rap. They blend well, however, and that is the trick. I'm delighted to report that things could be really starting to take off for the male/female duo who are suddenly being talked about widely in music circles. The forthcoming album might just put them (and Teesside) on the map." - Robert Nichols

"Peace keep doin your thing hip hop lives ..." - Scorzayzee (UKHH veteran)

"Wierdest Hip Hop combo ever, but it f*cking works. If you don’t trust me, I’ll give you some audio proof tomorrow." - ThisIsHipHop
