Joonas Haavisto is a jazz pianist, who has been performing widely in Europe and Japan in venues like Tokyo Jazz Festival, Musashino Swing Hall Tokyo, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, Bonington Theatre, Jazzpac at Lincoln University, Les Boréales Festival France and Pori Jazz Finland.

He has worked with chamber orchestras and big bands and leading his own group Joonas Haavisto Trio.

Having already impressed critics and audiences alike with the trio's debut, Blue Waters (Rockadillo Records), back in 2009, the second album Micro to Macro has received praising reviews from the main jazz magazines in Japan and Europe. Trio made their first tour in Japan in April 2013 and it was a big success. Two of the concerts were sold out and the album was chosen as one of the most interesting new jazz releases in Tower Records. The album was also noticed in Britain, where it was chosen as the best jazz album of European and independent US albums in November 2013 by ukvibe. Trio´s third album called oku will be released in both Europe and Japan in January 2016.

Joonas has performed with artists such as Jerry Bergonzi, Jonathan Kreisberg, Bill Watrous, John Fedchock and Ron McClure. He has won several prizes in the international competitions and performed as a solo pianist.

“Haavisto’s playing resembles the style of Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau. The mastering of Northern Europe coolness and catchy melodies is Haavisto’s strong point.”
-- Jazz Life, Japan: Micro to Macro

“This debut set is a delight from start to finish.”
--Tim Stenhouse, ukvibe: Micro to Macro
