With three alternating front-men and an energetic and impassioned approach to their performance, the band's sound is constantly in motion. Ilenkus will catch your attention and KEEP IT UNTIL THEY'RE DAMN WELL READY TO GIVE IT BACK.
In September 2014 Ilenkus released their sophomore album "The Crossing", to an overwhelmingly positive response from both national and international press.
"A scorching batch of tracks that places creativity and energy at its core. A real achievement" - Metal Ireland - IE
"So many disparate elements are mixed so seamlessly on this record. This band truly deserve a far larger profile than they currently have" - No Clean Singing - US
"A beautiful wall of sound marked by excellent guitar riffs, outstanding drumming and great vocals" - Echoes and Dust - UK
The band's recent video for 'Over The Fire, Under The Smoke' (which shows vocalist Chris Brennan performing the song acapella on a busy shopping street in Galway) amassed in excess of 30,000 views in under a week.
History:
Ilenkus formed and released their first demo in 2010. 2011 saw the band release their debut album - 'Rule By Thieves' on Savour Your Scene Records. The album was recieved positively by critics, with Terrorizer Magazine describing it as "expansive and well written".
The band's sound has been described as “A mix of Metal, Grunge and Noisecore”, while being compared to acts like Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Ocean, Cult Of Luna and Botch.
After extensive touring in Ireland, including playing support for The Ocean, Rolo Tomassi, Coilguns, Xerath and James Cleaver Quintet, Ilenkus departed on their first tour abroad in October 2012. They co-headlined a spell of dates around the UK with fellow Irish band - Shardborne. Simultaneously, Ilenkus released a new song - 'Ram', which was recieved excellently and featured on the cover mount CD of Terrorizer Magazine.
Ilenkus continued in this vein in 2013, after writing and recording the follow up to Rule By Thieves, the band went on two UK tours, two Irish tours(one supporting Swiss-band Coilguns) and also did their first gigs in mainland Europe.
"The Crossing" was released in September 2014 and is already expanding upon the bands burgeoning reputation. Repeatedly described as "the best live band in Ireland", Ilenkus are currently cementing their position as a major force to be reckoned with in the Irish music scene and beyond.
