Cheewi Beats’ s woozy sound is skating between jazz, chill and a meditative psychedelia"
Cheewi Beats presents its homonymous first discographic work, recorded in 2019 in Amsterdam and released in 2020 during the Pandemia. The album release was preceded by the launch of a video produced in the state of Veracruz, Mexico.
One of the jazz musicians' inner urges is to adapt to new sounds; in his new project, Italian saxophonist Giovanni Cigui is searching for depth and flexibility among styles, melting the interplay of jazz with contemporary electronic sounds on top of Lo-Fi and Hip-Hop infused rhythms.
The songs are an emotional blend of dreamy, sometimes meditative, chilled “feel-good” music and bouncing, energetic and groovy beats, all sauced up with a bunch of electronic sounds.
Cheewi Beats looks for no limit or barriers in playing or listening, and dips their influences into both the roots of the Black American tradition and the sounds of today’s most daring productions.
Cheewi Beats is an international ensemble: beside the leader on sax and EWI, there are Gianfranco Mascayano (Chile) on guitar, Tine Šinko (Slovenia) on bass and Nick Thessalonikefs (Greece) on drums.
