Bordel Western (sometimes called Big Friendly Giant...no one knows why) mixes the sounds of modern jazz created in Berlin with western american sound to shape an open, cheerful and intriguing musical style.
Deliberately taking refuge from conventional and complex Modern Jazz, Chilean bassist Tomás Peralta (b. 1985 Chile) initiated this project bringing together like-minded musicians who enjoy minimalistic forms and transparent melodies. Tomás is a former harpsichordist who trained in Argentina, the Netherlands and Germany, studying Jazz Guitar with Martin Scales and Max Zentwer.
New Yorker drummer Florian Albiez (b. 1986 USA) (who studied with Billy Martin and Cyro Baptista) and guitarist Paul Audoynaud (b. 1987 France) (who studied jazz at the Conservatory of Tours-FR) are both active musicians on the Berlin scene (The Mamut, Please Spring! etc...) join forces to create a western flavoured-sound blending elements of rock , blues and folk music into jazz.
