Led by singer/songwriter John Babylon and drummer Hawaii Jones, this creative collective embraces alternating line-ups – guitars, bass, the occasional trumpet – as well as several decades of music history: wild, riff-heavy funk meets soothing melodies; dark surf-chords mingle with soft jazzy vibes; beach goth is holding hands with indie pop – all united in the spirit of post-punk and its playful lyricism.

Their debut album “Heart on the Line” is scheduled for summer 2022 and will be released on vinyl/digital, coinciding with a small European tour. Recorded in 2021 on analog 8-track tape at Blue Whale Records in Berlin-Wedding, this album is all about “making new music the old way”. It’s a strong cocktail mixing Arctic Monkeys with Nick Cave; John Mayer with T.Rex and the Doors; it has some Black Keys, some ZZ Top, some early Kings of Leon/Tame Impala vibes; it’s Rolling Stones à la Motown, and Dick Dale à la 80’s West Berlin.

Babylon the Beach formed in Berlin, early in the tumultuous year of 2020, as John Babylon joined forces with guitarist Baskko Beach. Despite the ravaging pandemic, and several changes in their line-up, the band persisted to write and (home-)record music, playing local (semi-legal) gigs. “Liquid Galaxy” was their first single to be released on 30th December 2020. Soon thereafter, the band joined the Blue Whale Records family and recorded their first EP – which would grow to become their debut album.

Their latest single “Marie Cardona” is available now on all streaming platforms. Alongside previous 2021 releases (“Bartenderly” / “Babylon Blues”), all three tracks are accompanied by music videos and taken from their upcoming album – Heart on the Line is scheduled for release in summer 2022.
