Former, and founder member of north-east band The Jar Family, Al Devon is a singer-songwriter with a vast array of self-penned material which oozes the truth.

A completely ‘guards down’ artist who writes and performs with zero inhibitions. A rare talent who’s songs send the listener on a journey with a poetic and honest assessment of love, turmoil, political scepticism, humour and irony, all delivered with a distinctive vocal that can’t be mistaken.

Far from one dimensional,Al writes both heartfelt ballads and upbeat catchy indie-folk songs. In the 5 years spent with The Jar Family, Al wrote a total of six of the songs on the bands two released albums – Poolie Strut, Skipping Beats, Getting Better, Waiting There, Never Know Me and Spreading Out The Pain.

Poolie Strut, a song Al penned in homage to his hometown Hartlepool, won ‘Record Of The Year’ with Radio Six International in 2010 whilst also being adopted by Hartlepool United FC as the players run out tune in the 2011/2012 season. This lead to the song breaking a record at the local radio station, Radio Hartlepool as the most requested song in the stations history after it’s release as a single.

Whilst with The Jar Family, Al played hundreds of live gigs in venues spread all around England including sell outs at top London venues, the Barfly in Camden, The Water Rats, The Garage in Islington, The Notting Hill Arts Club and The Loch Tavern in Camden, Lomax in Liverpool, Middlesbrough Town Hall, Gloucester Guild Hall, Hartlepool Town Hall, Hartlepool Borough Hall and many more.

Al has also supported many established artists including The Charlatans, Newton Faulkner, Jake Bugg, Gabrielle, Josh Kumra, Steve Craddock (Ocean colour Scene), The Proclaimers, Royal Blood, The Milk, Alabama 3, Babyshambles, The Christians, The Sunshine Underground and also played to thousands at the 2011 Hopfarm Festival and other festivals around the country aswell as appearing on TV on popular music show Vintage TV with Toya Wilcox and Pat Sharp.
