With roots in Sicily, Agricantus (from the latin: the singing of the corn field) was founded in Palermo in 1979. Through three decades of music, melding the future with the past and mixing electronic grooves and ancient sounds from Southern Italy, North and West Africa, the Middle and Far East, the band has made its name in Europe with the multi-awarded album “Tuareg” (CNI, 1993), and worldwide with their participation to the sound-track of the movie “Steam: The Turkish Bath” (1997) by director Ferzan Ozpetek . Agricantus fever reached the USA, Japan and Australia with the release of “Best of Agricantus” (Valley Entertainment) in 1999.
Sicilian folk adventurers with a global twist, the new line-up includes lead vocalist and keyboard player Anita Vidale, drummer Giovanni Lo Cascio, and from the original band founders Mario crispi (archaic wind instruments) and Mario Rivera (bass and programming).Spread de word!
