“Ritual Dance” is the title of Yuri Daniel Quartet’s new album that was officially released on the 19th February 2015 in a memorable concert performed at the Grande Auditório Culturgest, in Lisbon. This date also marks the beginning of a Word Tour for the presentation of this new album which will visit many cities across the five continents. This album is available on all of the most important worldwide digital music distribution platforms such as iTunes, Google Play Music, Amazon Music and Spotify.

Strongly inspired by the book “Empire Adrift: The Portuguese Court in Rio de Janeiro, 1808-1821“ by Patrick Wilcken, this new album travels, in a calm and serene but simultaneously restless and fidgety manner, through the stunning and lush paths of Brazilian rhythmic profusion and vestiges of the Lusitanian heritage cultural miscegenation in the lands of Vera Cruz. In 1807, under the threat of Napoleonic invasion, the prince regent João Maria de Bragança (the future King John VI) was forced to make the decision of transplanting the entire court and the royal family to the largest Portuguese colony in a risky transatlantic voyage, under the escort of the British. This was a period in which Brazil and especially Rio de Janeiro was the scene of a great cultural evolution, becoming the epicenter of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves. "Ritual Dance" track titles illustrate, in a raw and explicit way, this whole environment of cultural effervescence: "Maracatu" (afro-Brazilian performance found in Pernambuco state of northeastern Brazil), "Ebony Wood" (African wood that is used, among others, in the piano black keys), "September 7" (date of independence of Brazil), among others.
