“H e a v e n s ” confirms the artist's return to the Italian and international music scene with a renewed awareness of himself and his work, now focused on a spiritual quest and an inner dialogue that looks elsewhere. Two approaches well present in the artist's artistic, and personal, journey, but in this new phase reinvigorated and with an eye toward the deeper meanderings of the ancestral.
Not only that, the singer-songwriter's growth also embraces her live performance. For this new project, in fact, Yoniro will stage a performance specifically designed to best convey the concept of her EP and her well-rounded artistic vision, to engage the audience in an evocative and exciting experience. The artist, who will also play the keyboard, will be joined onstage by violinist Benedetta Raho and guitarist Giulia Pastorino, as well as producer Salvatore Versace, to create an ensemble capable of maximizing the performance, not only instrumental but also visual. The decision to introduce physical instruments, in fact, aims at the staging of the artist's songs in a totalizing and nuanced dimension, to give greater importance to live listening. Last May 29, he made his live debut as the opening of internationally renowned artist Eartheater, in Rome at Hacienda for CRUDO, a project curated by Visioni Parallele.
The discographic path undertaken by Yoniro last March 2023 is characterized by a marked sound research and experimentation, but above all by an investigation of themes dear to the artist such as love, self-searching and revenge, but also positivity, women empowerment, self-confidence and, indeed, spirituality. All conveyed by avant-pop productions, curated by producer Salvatore Versace, a term to intuitively describe her fresh and melodic attitude, but without sacrificing the more experimental and “clubbing” aspect of the project's DNA.
The EP presents all the stylistic features of this artistic framework, in which the sound offers itself as an evocative texture with the ever-present dark hues to convey, and enhance, a narrative that serves as the project's common thread. The varied contaminations blend into a harmonious whole, resulting consistent with each other and with Yoniro's identity. In “Paradise”, for example, UK Garage influences for the drums intertwine with unexpected R&B influences, while a piano, played by Michele Ranauro, embellishes the melody. In contrast, in “Oh Boy” the productions play a predominant role, making a deconstructed club track, but one with a distinct catchiness. Standing out among the others for its diversity is “The Island”, with its unexpected “latin” mood that turns the track into a perfect alternative summer hit. “Secret Codes”, on the other hand, is the darkest track on the EP: dark and desert sounds to bring to life a post-apocalyptic scenario in which the necessary destruction leaves room only for spiritual good.
And it is precisely this spiritual quest that marks the entirety of Yoniro's work, which reflects, and wants her listeners to reflect, on existential questions such as love, self-awareness, but also more pragmatic issues concerning the music business and the commodification of one's body in a totalizing digital age.
Yoniro's quest culminates in “H e a v e n s ”, an EP collecting five avant-pop tracks, highly experimental and contaminated with international influences. It is no coincidence that “heavens” is in the plural: each track, in fact, is seen as a necessary, stand-alone step on the path to personal fulfillment and well-being. Each track, with its setting, represents an awareness for the artist that propels her toward her “heaven”
As mentioned earlier, the lyric used by Yoniro triggers many symbols related to spiritual tradition to invoke the concept of the project and create bridges between the audience and an otherworldly and ethereal dimension. “H e a v e n s ”, specifically, aims to investigate and exalt light, obviously without forgetting darkness, its complementary counterpart through which one can aspire to a luminous spiritual process. In this semantic scenario, sound plays a key role in conveying the singer-songwriter's intentions on a musical level. The result is a refined and experimental fresco, but one that winks at international pop melodies without sacrificing the artist's “clubbing” attitude. Even the productions alternate between moments of destruction and desolation, and wide, dilated breaths, between darkness and light, just like Yoniro's journey in search of herself.
