Spok einmal seinem alten Weggefährten Käpt’n Kirk zuflüsterte: „Alles was ich kenne, ist Logik“, da hatte er zwar ursprünglich nur sein binäres Wesen charakterisieren wollen, doch fasste er damit auch gleichermaßen die Welt der Universumreisenden von WYOMING in Worte. Denn alles, was diese drei eleganten Jungs anpacken, das entspringt einer ihnen ureigenen Logik. Zwar dringt das musikalisch hochbegabte Trio erst rund 40 Jahre später als Nimoy in unendliche Weiten vor, doch würden der kompletten Crew der Enterprise auch heute noch Tränen des Glücks in die Augen schießen, hätte sie in diese abgefahrenen Landschaften vordringen können, die WYOMING auf ihrem zweiten Album „Moon Jaunt“ entdecken. Man weiß genau: alles muss aus 0 und 1 zusammengesetzt sein. Doch ist in dieser Musik noch etwas verborgen, das einen normalempfindsamen Menschen um den Schlaf bringt.
Hatten David Stieffenhofer und die Gebrüder Manuel und Sascha Lukas auf ihrem knisternden Debüt–Album „Fountain“ (2013) noch griffige Synthesizer-Landscapes entworfen, irgendwo im Spannungsfeld zwischen The Whitest Boy Alive und Yo La Tengo, so spielt das Trio mit „Moon Jaunt“ nun den Soundtrack zu einem Leif–Randt–Roman. Hier flirrt und flimmert es in allen Ecken, der Sound ist sanft, die Rhythmen sind komplex. Gemeinsam mit Produzent Oliver Zülch (The Notwist, Slut, Sportfreunde Stiller, Die Ärzte) hat die Band ihren Sound behutsam verfeinert.
Es gibt Songs auf diesem wundersamen und suchterregenden Album, die sind so zart, als habe die Band sie auf Watte gebettet und Songs, welche so splittrig und zittrig sind, als habe die Band sie unter Strom und ins Wasser gesetzt. Stil und Intuition werden hier mit einer solchen Grandezza vereint, wie man es eigentlich nur von Musikern aus New York oder Bristol kennt. Würde man den Versuch wagen, einige ästhetisch verwandte Bands und Musiker aufzuzählen, so würde man vielleicht die Cocteau Twins nennen, sicherlich auch Portishead, The xx, Caribou oder Jon Hopkins.
Dass dieser grandiose Ritt nicht nur auf Platte funktioniert, das bewiesen in jüngster Zeit die umjubelten Konzerte des Trios auf dem Melt!–Festival oder während des Tour–Supports von ChkChkChk oder den Glass Animals.

When he once whispered to his old companion, Captain Kirk, ‘All I know is logic’, all Leonard Nimoy in his lifelong role as Mr. Spock wanted was to characterize his binary entity. Using those same words one could describe the world of the space travelers of WYOMING; through everything these three sophisticated boys approach, arises a very individual sense of logic. Although this highly talented trio advance through infinite vastness nearly 40 years after Nimoy, the entire crew of the Enterprise would cry tears of joy if they were to experience the bizarre landscapes that WYOMING encounter in their second album ‘Moon Jaunt’. One knows that everything must consist of 0’s and 1’s, and yet there is something hidden within this music that keeps normal, sentimental beings from sleep.
Just as David Stieffenhofer and brothers Manuel and Sascha Lukas masterfully conceptualized catchy synthesizer landscapes on their debut album ‘Fountain’ (2013) (somewhere between the musical range of The Whitest Boy Alive and Yo La Tengo), so too could the trio’s new album ‘Moon Jaunt’ play the part of a soundtrack to a Leif Randt novel. It glimmers at every turn. Their sound is gentle, and the rhythms complex. Together with producer Oliver Zülch (The Notwist, Slut, Sportfreunde Stiller, Die Ärzte), WYOMING has carefully refined and polished their sound.
There are songs on this wondrous yet addictive album so delicate, they are as if resting upon a floating cloud. There are songs so splitting and tremulous, they are as if charged with electricity and then placed under water. Style and intuition are joined together with a kind of grandiose air; something one associates with musicians from New York or Bristol. If one were to attempt to list off aesthetically related bands and musicians, one could name the Cocteau Twins, Portishead, The xx, Caribou, or perhaps Jon Hopkins.
WYOMING has proven time and time again, most recently being their successful concert at the Melt!–Festival, or as supporting act on tour with ChkChkChk as well as for the Glass Animals, that this magnificent journey that they take us on not only succeeds on vinyl but also on stage.
