Wonders of the Yukon - 4 Songs of Mild Peril

The four songs here are taken from an 11-track album written, performed, recorded and produced by Wonders of the Yukon at their home Wounded Wolf Studio. Drums (recorded in the lounge) by friend Kerry Harrison, who also provides the album imagery through his ace photography. DIY punk ethos indeed…

It's 2012. Andy Campbell and Dave Langdale find themselves in pre-existential crisis; careers in music seemingly behind them, wondering where it has all gone wrong. During evenings of red wine induced fugs they fall back into writing songs; the initial stipulation being that they are the most miserable songs ever composed but that a right laugh is had writing them. The songs progress, it becomes apparent that maybe there is something in this; the realisation that they have fallen back in love with music – with writing songs again.

An album of 11 songs follows despite the trials, demands and joys of family life and jobs. Songs about life not always being as it seems. The flip-side. Songs with literal meanings amidst the ambiguous, abstract, bleak and oblique. Songs about the world and the human condition from the comfort and terror of midlife. But always with humour. Songs of Mild Peril.

It’s not like it used to be – the unrealistic expectations, intense desperation and arrogance of younger days. Things have changed. They love writing songs – always will – and they would love other people to hear them.
