WATT! - aka Rob Keane - is an Australian electronic composer currently living in Düsseldorf, Germany. Classically trained, WATT!’s melancholic blend of new wave and dream-pop is reminiscent of 70s/80s West German electronica.
WATT! first came to attention in 2017 when he won the Open Source Festival’s Young Talent Competition, thus earning the chance to perform at last years’ festival. He has since performed as part of C / O Pop Festival, Düsseldorf Pop Day and Micropop Festival. In 2018 WATT! toured through Germany in support of Tame Impala’s Julian Barbagallo; additionally he has performed alongside ex-Kraftwerker Wolfgang Flür on multiple occasions, and as local support to Chogori (DE), Aquaserge (FR) and Gents (DK).
WATT! is also known for his DJ sets, where he plays a mix of minimal, house and world fusion.
WATT! is a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, South Australia, where he majored in Classical Performance. His studies were conducted at the renowned Electronic Music Unit (EMU) originally created by none other than Tristram Carey, founder of Electronic Music Studios Ltd in London (EMS Synthis). He is known for his strong interest in music history, and has been invited as a guest speaker to the inaugural Electri_city Conference in Düsseldorf alongside Peter Hook (Joy Division / New Order) as well as the Düsseldorf Music Convention. He translated Rudiger Esch’s book Electri_city: Elektronische Musik Aus Düsseldorf into English.
