WILHELM are a pop/indie band from Pamplona, Spain, formed in 2011, when Guille (exdrummer from Antigua y Barbuda), decided he needed a change in his musical career, and asked Helen to join him.

The beginnings
Wilhelm’s first 4 track EP; The Forests Have no Name, was the result of some homestudio experiments conducted by Guille and Helen. Aside from guitars and keyboards, a selection of unusual instruments like melodicas and mandolins found their way onto the tracks, and shortly after its release in August 2011, the duo were given the award of Demo of The Year by the Spanish magazine Mondosonoro. By the end of the year, Guille and Helen had got together with a few other friends and the band had secured a deal with Origami Records (Madrid). In 2012, their debut album “The War of the Species” launched them onto the national music scene. The band topped several best of 2012 lists, and got them played on the prestigious American NPR and British This is Fake DIY radio stations. The War of the Species was also released on limited-edition vinyl in France, and as a special edition in Japan, on Fastcut Records. In 2015, the band are due to release their sophomore album, “How High, Lily?”.

Musical style
Wilhelm have always struck a balance between the rough- nd-ready, and their own pop sensibilities. Their first album was influenced by folk music and instrumentation, nature, the animal world, and a critical view of the world, but their current live show, as well as their forthcoming album, has heavier rock and electronic influences. The band cite artists such as Lukestar, Truls and the Trees, Jr. Ewing, Passion Pit, Blink 182, Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, as inspiration.
