Three guitar students, Jalmar Vabarna, Argo Vals and Jaan Jaago, discovered their common interest into playing guitars in New Standard Tuning at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy guitar-studio. The band plays acoustic instruments in this unique tuning which is based on the famous Guitar Craft methodology. Their main focus is on their own creation which is particularly influenced by jazz and traditional music.
Hedvig Hanson, one of Estonian most acknowledged jazz-singers has said their music to have a very new approach to colors. She added that every song is very interesting, enthralling and deep-laid, but also leaves enough harmonic space for listeners.
Experimenting with new composition and playing styles, but also at the same time enjoying the simplicity of their music makes Viljandi Guitar Trio one of the most exciting acoustic music developers and players in Estonia.

On the year 2011 Viljandi Guitar Trio released their debut album „VGT“ and on november 2014 they released their second studio album "10-56".
