TWO FACED SERENADE – KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT | EP REVIEW
Two Faced Serenade - Keep Your Mouth Shut EP

Pop punk and hardcore infusion outfit Two Faced Serenade have spent most of their time playing shows and expanding on their fan base since they became a band in 2013. After a hard slog through 2014 they headed in to the studio to record their debut EP which finally saw the light of day at the beginning of this month. Keep Your Mouth Shut sees the Essex quartet lay down tracks that prove their capability and more than anything, drive.

Upon hearing the first track, you get the impression that this is a band that takes influences from bands like Fall Out Boy and Pierce The Veil — it’s an unusual combination in theory, but in practice it seems to work for them. A mix of both clean and unclean vocals plus some incredibly intricate guitar parts makes for a great song and a solid opening to the EP in general.

‘Everybody Say It’s Okay‘ has seen a lyric video released for it, making it a strong contender for leading the EP. The use of gang vocals appeals to the more pop punk side of the band and for that very reason it will undoubtedly draw in fans of bands such as As It Is and ROAM. The title track, on the other hand, has a bit more of a gritty feel to it, similar to older punk bands from the early 00’s. For such a young band, it’s impressive — there’s a high level of versatility that even some older artists would struggle to keep up with.

Final tracks ‘Parachute‘ and ‘Here’s That Song You Wanted‘ round off the EP in true style, carrying on the theme of playful pop punk laced with something a little harder that gives the band a unique edge. They might not have the smoothest performance and production but Two Faced Serenade certainly have a bright spark within them that will see them go far if they know what to do with it.
