“The tracks released by this band so far have just been infectiously brilliant.

Just happy, brilliant songs that have put a smile on my face and have been absolute earworms!“ - Christian Carlisle - BBC Introducing, February 2020

With Sheffield’s music scene undergoing something of a resurgence, finally emerging from the shadows of former glories and refusing to rest on its laurels, it’s bands like Twenty Eighth Club that are spearheading the movement. A new breed of upbeat indie-pop that eschews the gritty council estate pop narratives of the late ‘00s in favour of something ultimately much more optimistic and encompassing.

The bands’ latest single, ‘Easy’, follows in the same vein as previous releases ‘Rebound’ and ‘Lost in Conversation’ (the former being added to Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ playlist) and sees the Sheffield five-piece arguably at their breezy best. The upbeat and catchy hook combines with powerful, punchy drums and Joe Slack’s impassioned and effortless vocal delivery, creating an anthemic single that’s head and shoulders above their contemporaries.

If 2019 was the year that saw Twenty Eighth Club live up to their swathes of early promise, then 2020 is the year they seriously make a name for themselves. Appearances at the likes of Y Not and Dot to Dot Festivals last summer bolstered a smattering of sold out headlines in the bands’ hometown. A strong end to 2019 has set the band up for an exciting and very active 2020.

Upbeat, optimistic and utterly irresistible, Twenty Eighth Club are part of a new guard of Sheffield bands refusing to bay to South Yorkshire stereotypes, and ‘Easy’ is the latest offering from a band destined for bigger things.
