Tourists Short Info

A blend of intricate guitar melodies, curvy art-funk bass lines and 80’s synth leads, Tourists encapsulate modern post-punk revivalism with a melodic, psychedelic spin.

The writing process began in 2012 when founding members Jamie Giles (vocals/guitar), Scott Morton (drums) and Matthew White (bass) acquired some basic recording equipment and produced the debut EP Fear Grows. The lo-fi record – produced at home by Morton – was by no means perfect in sound quality but succeeded in capturing an identity, one that still resonates through the band’s sound today.

2013 saw the release of second EP Hidden Desires with label In At The Eye Records. Singles from the EP We’ll Talk About It and Background became instant hits, drawing praise from the likes of Janice Long (Radio 2) and XFM. Soon after, Tourists were invited into the BBC Introducing in Devon studio, becoming the first band to play a full set live on air.

After a quiet transitional year in the shadows and with the addition of new members Lloyd Bastow (guitar) and Tom Wilkinson (synthesizer), Tourists have re-emerged in 2015 and look set to build on the success of recent years. With a sound and presence richer and more expansive than ever before, Giles’ vocals remain haunting, echoing notions of self-doubt, indulgence, love and loss, in a dark shimmering sea of reverb.

Currently working on material for their debut album, Tourists release latest single All We Do Is Pretend on 21st August 2015. The track was recently featured on Huw Stephen’s BBC Radio 1 show and has already attracted the attention of online magazines CLASH, The 405 and Inveterate.

“A lush return, the jagged guitar lines are matched against gossamer synths and vocals that betray a pop ambition” CLASH

“Tourists are back with a catchy new single All We Do Is Pretend. A nice collection of psychedelic pop… quite dark at times but the glistening guitar and warming synth will have you feeling quite the opposite” The 405

“The band’s forthcoming release All We Do Is Pretend has already seen significant support from the likes of CLASH and The 405, with the band tipped by XFM, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Introducing as ones to watch” Inveterate

“Each member is integral to their lush synth pop/rock sound" James Santer (BBC Introducing)

“I love it!” Janice Long (BBC Radio 2) on We’ll Talk About It

“I like them… nice Strokes jangliness about it” XFM
