Tom’s approach to songwriting is unique in its vulnerability; his ‘heart on the sleeve’ approach draws people in, making his live performances intense, emotional “pin drop” affairs.
His music is influenced by a range of different artists such as Jeff Buckley, Death Cab For Cutie, City and Colour, Keaton Henson and The Tallest Man On Earth to name a few. One of Tom's previous singles, 'Without You', was recorded with Kevin Paul who has produced a lot of Nick Cave's previous recordings. It's a varied melting pot of influences and styles but Tom writes songs about personal experiences. The visceral, raw delivery and intensely honest lyrics are the focus of Tom's songs; songs about love, life, loss, mental health and growing up. The songs are written simply to evoke a feeling in the listener; to allow them to relate, to understand and perhaps be somewhere else for a couple of minutes.
Tom has been an active part of Glasgow's busy music scene for years now, performing at various renowned venues with a variety of up and coming and established acts. He has also performed at various festivals including Celtic Connections, Eden Festival, ButeFest and also was selected to perform at Roundhouse Rising at Camden's Roundhouse in London. He has received airplay on various local and national radio stations such as Clyde 1, Forth 1 and has also performed live on RAPAL TV on BBC ALBA.
In June 2021, Tom released his debut album, Space and Time. Recorded through lockdown, the album is seven tracks that deal with loss, grief, mental health and relationships; each one about Tom’s own struggles with mental health and his recovery. The first single, Always On My Mind, received airplay on Amazing Radio with Jim Gellatly, the following single, 2006, received airplay on Amazing Radio and BBC Rapal and album track, Underdog, received airplay on BBC Introducing Scotland. The album received great support from a variety of online blogs and music websites.
With new material in the works, Tom has got back to playing live shows with his first in almost two years, being a sold out show with Sofar Sounds in Glasgow. There’s plenty more to come this year.
