Formed in 2010, the band are renowned for their electronic twist on alt-rock and the tightest live show around.
In 2012, the band released their debut album ‘Gradients’ which secured their status in the Scottish music scene. A nomination for Best Newcomer at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, as well as features on local Scottish music blogs (Peenko, Rave Child and Favourite Son) and a spread in the Edinburgh Evening News boosted the band’s profile at a national level. ‘Send The Waves’ was used as the soundtrack for the ‘This Is Edinburgh’ TV advert on STV and Channel 4. The band also gained public recognition with radio play from Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland) and Jim Gellatly (XFM Scotland).
Post ‘Gradients’, The Winter Tradition took their live show to another level with capacity shows at The Liquid Room (Edinburgh), King Tut’s (Glasgow) and The Barfly (London), as well as supporting Deaf Havana, AWOLNATION, Enter Shikari, Fatherson and The Boxer Rebellion along the way. The band also took their first steps on the UK festival circuit with performances at Belladrum, Brew at the Bog, XPONorth and the BBC Tent at the Edinburgh Festival.
The band launched their second album ‘Lumi’ [“Easily the best alternative rock album of 2015 so far…” Keith Creighton, Popdose.] at King Tut’s, Glasgow in May 2015. ‘Lumi’ sees the guitar driven aspect of the band pushed slightly further back to allow more electronic and creative instruments take the lead, influenced by the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and Bon Iver. Singles ‘Departures’, ‘All Back Home’ and ‘Call’ achieved further national radio play on BBC Radio 1, 2 and 6Music, as well as features in The Scotsman, Scottish Sun, Metro and Sunday Herald. The Winter Tradition also started to spread internationally with US based blogs Popdose, 7BitArcade and SupaJam getting behind them.
The Winter Tradition plan to release two linked EP’s in 2016.
