Beide verbindet dabei von Anfang an eine große Liebe zum Psychedelic Rock zwischen dessen klassischen Surf- & Garagen-Vorstufen sowie deren modernen Adaptionen (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels). Dabei entsteht aus einer Handvoll Akkorden, wenig Progression und spärlicher Instrumentalisierung eine zeitlose Coolness, die jeglichen Firlefanz bewusst weglässt. Diese Attitude durchzieht auch die Tonträger von The Velvet Swing (3 EPs & 1 LP), die voll von psychedelischen Perlen im klassischen Drei-Minuten-Format sind. Psychedelic Rock als Nichteinverstandensein mit der Wirklichkeit, wo sich coole Filme nicht nur angeschaut werden wollen, sondern wo in ihnen gelebt werden will. Das reicht doch eigentlich schon.

Am 20. Oktober 2023 erschien mit VISIONS OF THE NIGHT der erste Longplayer des Projekts beim Salzburger Label BOOT. Das Album enthält 8 Songs, darunter die bereits veröffentlichten Singles FOR GOOD und VISIONS OF THE NIGHT.

THE VELVET SWING

First founded in 2017 as a solo project by Philip Paulus, it is now also owned by Michael Zagorec
to the permanent core line-up of The Velvet Swing. From the very beginning, both of them shared a great love of psychedelic rock between its classic surf & garage precursors and their modern adaptations (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels). A handful of chords, little progression and sparse instrumentalization create a timeless coolness that deliberately leaves out any frills. This attitude also permeates The Velvet Swing's recordings (3 EPs & 1 LP), which are full of psychedelic gems in the classic three-minute format. Psychedelic rock as a disagreement with reality, where cool films not only want to be watched, but where people want to live in them. That's actually enough.
